The twin organizations - Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission were started by Swami Vivekananda in 1898 in Kolkata (West Bengal), to propagate the teachings of Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna for the benefit of humanity. Headquartered at Belur, the Mission and Math has over 190 branches spread all over the world serving with the motto
‘आत्मनो मोक्षार्थम् जगद्धिताय च।’
- for the liberation of the self and for the welfare of the world.

The ideology of Ramakrishna Math consists of the eternal principles of Vedanta as lived and experienced by Sri Ramakrishna and expounded by Swami Vivekananda.

Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda are our eternal sources of inspiration.

The Significance of Kathamrita Bhawan

The residence of "M", famously known as "Kathamrita Bhawan", holds a place in the world of Sri Sri Ramakrishna-Sarada. In this house, the Holy Mother herself installed Durga Ghatam and a photograph of Sri Ramakrishna. She resided here for a month in a corner room on the first floor. Afterwards, in this same room, Sri "M" concluded composing the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna (Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita). Swamiji and his brother disciples have visited the room on the ground floor quite a few times and held discussions regarding the Master with "M". A mention regarding this may be found in the Gospel.

Opening of New Shrine

Most Revered Srimat Swami Suhitanandaji Maharaj, Vice President, Belur Math consecrated the new shrine on the 28th of Oct '23, in the ground floor of adjacent premises, on the holy ocassion of Sri Sri Lakshmi Puja. Spiritual discourses will henceforth happen here, and we hope to accomodate many more devotees in religious celebrations

A charitable dispensary will also commence from the 1st floor of this building.
